Adding shadows to the landscape paintings add life to the paintings. Simple cast shadow is used by many artists for painting. A shadow is casted when an object blocks the light source or sun. Adding warm colors and the colors that are akin to the object must be used to develop cast shadows.
Sun is too warm, so to represent its warmness in the landscape painting the artists use red, orange and yellow colors. Depending on the time of a day the shadows are casted in the Landscape Paintings.
Shadows are darker and longer during early morning, and lighter and shorter during afternoon.
While painting a landscape the size and direction of the shadows must be concentrated more.
It is important to note the length of shadows.
Apply the shadow to a side or directly under the subject to paint the shadow correctly in the landscape. Highlights should be made on the subject and not on the shadow. In a landscape painting the shadow must fade as it move away from the subject.
Shadows consistency must be maintained in the landscape Oil Paintings. Shadows add realism and create drama in the landscapes. It must be used thoughtfully and carefully in the landscape paintings.
